January kata '08: Oikage dori

I choose to do this kata because I think it brings out some very important principles. The ideas of using stealth steps to catch an opponent, distraction, and keeping hidden even in the midst of an attack and throughout a conflict are very important concepts. These are key elements of ninjutsu, and such concepts are what separate the ninja from many other martialists.
I accept the mechanics are easy, and this is a good thing. This allow us to concentrate our training on the higher principles I mentioned above instead of trying to work out the mechanics of complicated techniques.
This particular kata stresses the reasons why I offer a monthly kata. They are not required at all in any curriculum that the Bansenshukai has. They are offered, however, so that those who are interested in learning the deeper and hidden principles in our art may do so. They also are a valuable asset in learning how to train yourself.
I am anxious to hear your comments, questions, or feelings on this particular kata.
